WHAT IS BHARATANATYAM?

Bharatanatyam is an Indian classical dance form which originated in Tamil Nadu, India. The term "Bharatanatyam" expresses bhavam - meaning emotion, ragam - meaning melody, and talam - meaning rhythm, through natyam - which means dance. Historically, it was a sacred art form performed in temples, and it continues to enchant audiences today with the storytelling of Hindu mythology.

WHAT IS AN ARANGETRAM?

"Arangetram" is a word that translates to "ascending the stage," and in Bharatanatyam, it refers to the debut performance of a dancer. It marks the completion of their first margam, which is the traditional sequence of dances that is practiced in Bharatanatyam, and the beginning of their dance career. An Arangetram is a significant event for a dancer, showcasing their skills, years of hard work, and their dedication.
